| My name is Alla Shubina and I’m the director of Novye Teknologii, Ltd., a language school located in Alchevsk, Ukraine. I’m a graduate of Lugansk State Pedagogical University and have over 10 years of teaching experience in various state and private educational establishments in Ukraine and abroad. I was raised in the eastern part of Ukraine bordering Russia and my native tongue is Russian. I’ve got fifteen years of formal Russian language study, including a major at the university. I’ve been offering multi-level language courses in Alchevsk, Ukraine for over 5 years. Since 2004 I’ve been training employees of OJSC Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works. Also, my school had a contract to teach English to university teachers in 2005 and to civil servants of the Alchevsk Executive Committee in 2007. I’ve always been interested in knowledge acquisition, especially concerning new methods of teaching, because I felt there were certain gaps in traditional education practices. This is what mainly spurred me on to obtain an internationally recognized TEFL certificate through the Cambridge University CELTA program in 2007. I use various methods while teaching. The most essential thing is the development of practical skills, drawing in students to participate. I try to avoid using complicated theoretical terminology. As a rule, I try to use actual topics that interest learners, situations from everyday life they may encounter while traveling abroad. Regardless of my students' level, I want them to be immersed in the target language from the very first lesson. Alla |
